Led by a gymnastics instructor and educator, Minds in Balance follows a Montessori preschool curriculum. Montessori instruction promotes creativity, critical thinking, collaborative and self-directed work. The gymnastics component of the program targets skills that include balance, crossing the midline of the body, gross motor coordination, strength, flexibility, and confidence.
My 4 year old, twin boys first started Minds in Balance when they were 2 and 1/2 years. We took this past year off, as my boys went to preschool. However, we started back up, this Summer, and the boys just LOVE attending, Minds in Balance every Friday morning. The instructor, Miss Andie, is friendly and very welcoming! The class size is small (about a 5:1 student to teacher ratio), and the students range from ages 2 1/2 to 5. My boys LOVE the gym, so it helps that the group starts the morning with a little free play on some of the preschool, gymnastics equipment.
Miss Andie is extremely informative about the Montessori-based curriculum. The past few weeks, they have focused on the sun and investigating shadows, practicing writing their names and the word ‘sun’, exploring with puzzles, lace-up cards, and other exciting learning activties. A snack is provided as well.
What I also REALLY love, is all the pictures that are placed on a private Shutterfly account. There are pictures of the boys trying out balance boards, investigating with science experiments, tumbling on the mats, and interacting with the other preschoolers in the class.
